J. Mercer Johnson, III AZBTA Allied Member Professional Development Scholarship

This professional development scholarship was created and named in the honor of AZBTA board member J. Mercer Johnson, III after he passed away in 2008. Because Mercer was so passionate about this industry and AZBTA, the board unanimously voted to create this scholarship, as this was the best way to honor our friend and colleague.

The Mercer Johnson Professional Development Scholarship is open to any AZBTA Allied member in good standing. Scholarship funds may be used for any NBTA recognized continuing education program (CTE, CCTE, GLP, etc.) but in no event will the value of the scholarship exceed $500.

Applications will be accepted starting February 1, 2010.
Deadline for Submission is 5pm - Friday, Friday, April 30, 2010.

Each year, the Chapter Presidents' Council grants scholarship awards to individual members of chapters that are in the CPC. A Chapter Scholarship is also awarded. This year the CPC will award up to $9,525 in scholarship funds.

Individual awards will be made in the following categories and quantities:

  • First Year NBTA Membership (2) - Direct applicants only
  • NBTA Annual Convention Registration (2) - Direct or Allied. Usable for 2010 or 2011 Convention (does not include air or hotel)
  • $500 Award - For CCTE or GLP tuition or registration fees (9) - Direct or Allied

In addition, the CPC will award one $1,500 Chapter Scholarship to a CPC Chapter, for use at the Chapter's discretion to support its service initiatives. The CPC will also award one $1,000 CPC Memorial Scholarship. This special award is in honor and memory of the outstanding accomplishments, commitment and contributions to the CPC, NBTA and the travel community made by those who have served in the Chapter Presidents Council. It is given to the highest scoring applicant for a CCTE and GLP scholarship.

To win a scholarship, applicants must submit an application. Applications are scored on merit. The questions asked are streamlined, for quick and easy submission by applicants. No essays here! Like previous years, all applications are submitted online on the NBTA CPC website. Scholarship recipients must be active members of a CPC chapter. Recipients can only win scholarships twice. Awards are valid starting July 1, 2010 and must be used within 2 years. (If someone wants to use it right away in late June 2010, we'll work with them.)

Online application submission is currently scheduled to begin Friday, April 2. You'll receive an update should there be any changes.

Deadline for Submission: Friday, May 7, 2010
